The working city
Mumbai compresses twenty million lives against a seafront, and the pressure produces photographs: dabbawalas running lunch logistics through colonial arcades, monsoon waves breaking over Marine Drive's parapet, mill-district chimneys over fishing villages older than the city. It is India's most cinematic street light — humid, backlit, silver off the sea.
The city's documentary tradition is deep and its subjects are working people; the photographer's job is to keep up and stay honest.
When to come
November–February for filtered gold light; June–September's monsoon for the drama, if your gear and humour are sealed.

Working notes
- Local trains are the city's bloodstream; ride outside rush hour with minimal kit until you know the rhythm.
- Monsoon work needs full sealing and a dry bag with a towel — the humidity finds everything.
- The film-industry no-photography lines around studios and star homes are enforced; the streets are generous enough.
