Macro turns any hedgerow into an expedition. These workshops slow photography down to the scale of frost, moss, and insects warming for the first flight of the day — with technique to match: manual focus, focus stacking, diffused light small enough to carry in a pocket.
Dawn sessions favour cold, still insects; afternoons move to the bench for stacking and controlled light.

Questions, answered
Is a macro lens required?
Helpful but not required — extension tubes on any normal lens will carry you through the workshop, and loaner macros exist.
Do we photograph live insects?
Yes, unmanipulated: no chilling, no pinning, no glue — techniques we consider disqualifying. Early mornings offer naturally still subjects.
What is focus stacking?
Combining frames focused through a subject's depth into one sharp image. Taught from capture through assembly, with the tripod discipline it demands.
