Food
The discipline
Our food workshops start in markets and kitchens, not on styled sets, because food photography that matters is about the people and heat behind the plate. Expect steam, bad light, generous cooks, and the challenge of working quickly with respect.
Studio craft — backgrounds, propping, the patient architecture of a still life — takes the second half, taught by photographers who shoot for restaurants and publishers.
Departures
Field notes
Photograph the making; the finished dish has only one expression.
Window light plus a white card outperforms most studios.
Steam and pours reward burst; crumbs reward stillness.
Questions, answered
Restaurant or studio work?
Both. Mornings tend toward markets and kitchens; afternoons toward built still-life sets and lighting.
Do we eat the subjects?
Reliably. The workshops are catered by their locations, and the fee includes every meal you photograph.
What gear suits food?
A macro or short telephoto, a fast normal, and a tripod. We provide reflectors, boards, and surfaces.
